Central United Methodist Church maintains a local and global perspective of God’s Kingdom by fostering an environment in which we can grow as devoted disciples, following Jesus in word and action. We are a mission-minded congregation, with the bulk of our ministry outreach focused locally in the Decatur/Morgan County area.

One of the ways we reach out in ministry to our community is through our Monthly Mission Focus. Each month we designate at least one service organization or mission effort as our focus for that month. During that month, representatives of that organization or mission visit to tell us more about their mission and how we can be personally involved as a congregation and/or as individuals. A significant number of Central members choose to give of their time, talents, and skills to one or more of these mission groups. Further, our communion offering for the month goes directly to that mission.

Groups we have partnered with recently include: (click on each name for their website)

Calhoun Community College Student Emergency Grant Fund, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), NCC (Neighborhood Christian Center), The Volunteer Center of Morgan County, PACT (Parents & Children Together), The Community Free Clinic, CCC (the Committee on Church Cooperation),and Hospice of the Valley

At least one month per year is devoted to our in-house Good Samaritan ministry, through which we are able to assist individuals on a case by case basis with a variety of personal and family needs.

Members of Central are active in helping area children by serving as reading buddies at local elementary schools, providing take home backpacks of weekend food, and throwing parties for special holidays and occasions.

Farther from home, we regularly contribute donations and volunteer time to missions of the UMC North Alabama Conference such as Embrace Alabama Kids, UMC Disaster Warehouse, and Camp Sumatanga. In addition, a portion of all giving at Central goes toward the larger missions and ministries of the general United Methodist Church.

Within our congregation members of our HUGS, St. Joseph, and Stephen ministries care for those among us who are experiencing times of transition, crisis, illness or bereavement. Our team provides meals, cards, visits, transportation, and other assistance through these stressful times of life.

There are so many ways to be involved blessing and helping our neighbors at Central! If you'd like to know more about any of these ministries, please Contact us.

Most merciful God,

we confess that we have sinned against you

in thought, word, and deed,

by what we have done,

and by what we have left undone.

We have not loved you with our whole heart;

we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,

have mercy on us and forgive us;

that we may delight in your will,

and walk in your ways,

to the glory of your Name.

Amen.
